| Welcome to the Information
Technology Services (ITS) Department at Albright College.
Our goal is to answer your questions about computers
and information technology at Albright and explain what we offer
our students. While Albright College students are not required
to own a Personal Computer, having a personal computer in an academic
environment definitely assists and enhances the learning process.
Through the Albright College Ethernet network,
the entire campus is wired for the internet and student E-mail and
all buildings are connected by fiber optic cables to ensure speed
and connectivity.

All the Dorms on campus are
wired for network accessibility through an Ethernet network.
This allows students to access the Internet and E-mail. Every
dorm room has an Ethernet network port for each student.
No more
than one device (computer) may be attached to an Ethernet port
at any time. Devices that extend this function such as hubs,
switches, or wireless hubs are strictly prohibited.

Every student enrolled at Albright
College is assigned an E-mail address with a personal password.
This account is pre-generated for every freshman student.
Account information can be obtained at Sneak Peek (ITS Table in
Information Mall) or at the Information
Technology Services Freshman Orientation. If you are
unable to pick up your email account information during one of
these opportunities, it can be picked up at any time after the
semester start at
the Albright College Help Desk. You will need to show your student
ID and sign the Ethical and Legal Practices Agreement.

Frequently asked questions.
- Will the student have his/her
own telephone number? What is my telephone
number?
Yes. Each resident student’s phone number is based on the
student’s campus mailbox number.
Each Student on Campus
will have an individual extension that is based on the student’s
campus mailbox per the chart below:
Student Mailbox Number |
Extension / Voicemail |
1-999 |
5001-5999 |
1000-1999 |
1000-1999 |
Examples: mailbox 7 = ext. 5007; mailbox 123
= ext. 5123; mailbox 1024 = ext. 1024
To call a student
from the outside, dial (610) 921-7200. When
the Albright announcement starts playing, dial the Student’s
extension number. If the call is not answered, the
call will forward into the Student’s voice mailbox. There
is an option on the menu to dial by name. Someone dialing your
name will only be able to successfully reach you if you initialize
your voice mailbox.
- Does Albright College supply a telephone
in the room for the students?
No. It is the student’s
responsibility to bring an analog telephone to use in the dorm
room.
- Does Albright College have voice
mail? Do I need an answering machine?
Yes, resident students
have their own personal voice mailbox, which is associated
with their extension. Students are encouraged to utilize the
system, which does provide a broadcast message service for
the community. Therefore, an answering machine is not required.
- What
services are available?
The phone in the room can dial
on campus extensions, local calls, 800 numbers, and calling
card calls.
- How do I make a
toll call if I do not have a calling card?
The student
needs to use a Long Distance Password (LDP). The student must
complete a Long Distance Password Registration Card, available
from the Telecommunications Office.
- How am
I billed for the toll calls I place?
Students will
receive a bimonthly detailed bill listing all toll calls that
were placed during the billing period. The total amount of the
bill will be placed on the monthly student statement and sent
to the student’s home address.
- Can
I accept collect calls in my room?
No.
- Can I change my long distance
service provider?
No. Albright College has an agreement
with a long distance service provider.
- Where
do I pay my bill?
Bills may be paid at the Cashier’s
window in the Administration building. Make checks payable
to Albright College.
- What if my phone
is not working properly?
First, verify that your phone
is not the problem by taking it to a neighbor’s room
and connecting it to his/her phone jack. If your phone still
doesn’t work, you must repair/replace
it yourself. If your phone does work at the neighbor’s jack,
please call the Help Desk at extension 7676 for service on the
phone connection in your room.
